CBD Benefits For High Contact Sports Athletes

CBD for Athlete Pain Relief and Recovery

Team and individual sports are fun and extremely satisfying to watch and perform and have been a source of entertainment and exercise for centuries. However, anyone who’s ever played knows how sore, strenuous, and exhausting the end result can be, especially if you’re playing a high contact sport.

Checks, tackles, punches, kicks, throws, passes gone wrong. All of these forms of contact, when sustained repeatedly, can inflict exorbitant pain, strain, and wear on the joints, muscles, tendons, and bones of the body. We’re all human, and even the most professional, premier hockey enforcers, football linebackers, and martial artists can be fallible to the whims of the season or career ending injuries.

As excruciating as it can be, a lot of athletes are reluctant to seek treatment and rehabilitation for their pain, and for often understandable reasons. Certain treatments such as invasive surgical procedures may backfire colossally and only worsen the pain. Furthermore, numerous classes of traditional pain medications, including NSAIDs and opiates, can present an extremely high potential for abuse, lethal overdose, and other health problems.

Amid this growing public health crisis, athletes may feel burdened by the pressure, weighed down by the feeling that they have nowhere else to go. CBD presents a solution to this problem.

CBD products are the Swiss Army Knife of wellness and feature the right balance of therapeutic relief to help athletes improve their performance and overcome the physical and psychological hurdles. Read on to find out more about how athletes can benefit from using CBD.

CBD for Pain Relief

Many athletes get worn down by severe sprains or fractures. Even the most incremental muscle fatigue and pains can hamper them from performing to their full potential.

CBD attacks pain at its source: by stimulating cannabinoid (CB1 and CB2) neurotransmitters, it can induce an analgesic, anti-inflammatory effect in the body’s nociceptive pain receptors.

By interacting with these pain receptors, it moves them away from instability and closer toward equilibrium. People have implemented these sorts of cannabinoid pain treatments for centuries, but only recently have scientists began to recognize the efficacy of primarily CBD-based therapies for treating pain. Along with this effectiveness comes zero risk of addiction or any mind-altering psychoactive effects.

Unlike the numbing effect of opioids, CBD topicals have been shown to provide smart, concentrated relief on the areas they target. This capability is particularly useful for targeted muscle pain therapy. Granted, sweating or swimming in water can greatly mitigate the topical’s effectiveness, so athletes should utilize them before and after physical activity for the most benefit.

CBD for Anxiety Relief

Sports, especially in organized leagues, can be high stress, high stakes, and high anxiety environments for athletes.

For many athletes, dealing with this anxiety is difficult: the stressors of athletics can be rather impromptu in extremely heat-of-the-moment situations, and the sedation and potential long-term health repercussions of benzodiazepines can make them less-than-ideal anti-anxiety medications for athletes.

CBD endocannabinoid stimulation can also very much combat anxiety at the root, without altering or impairing psychological judgment. It has no risk of addiction, sedation, overdose mortality, or creating more anxiety.

By modulating serotonin, it can modulate the chemical imbalance that so often lies at the biological core of anxiety and depressive disorders.

Though still ongoing, much research has already attested to CBD’s ability to mitigate anxiety, and studies suggest that it may the ideal supplement to help high contact athletes perform with a clearer mind.

CBD for Neuroprotectivity

In recent years, a lot of awareness and controversy has been raised surrounding the risks of Chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) and other forms of head trauma in high-contact sports such as boxing, ice hockey, and football.

CTE is an especially concerning form of this trauma, associated with brain damage, dementia, addiction, paranoia, depression, and increased suicidality among other factors.

It is hard to eliminate these risks entirely given the inherently violent nature of these sports, but evidence has shown that CBD is a highly effective neuroprotective antioxidant. CBD actively combats the excitotoxicity that so often contributes to neuronal cell death, brought about by CTE and other neurodegenerative conditions. More research still needs to be done, but early signs look promising.

Always consult your doctor and properly research your league’s regulations before trying CBD, and if you have any questions about our own product, be sure to visit https://www.trucurecbd.com/pages/frequently-asked-questions or our Contact Page for any further questions.

  • I recently was given by a close friend a small container of 1000MG TruCure CBD Topical salve. I have had five spinal surgeries, including an L2/3 fusion four months ago. I am 68 yrs old and an avid skier, racquets player and golfer. I have been using this salve daily in the last week, and it has provided me with relief from pain and stiffness, not only in my lower back, but in my right shoulder which hurts from pickleball and tennis. I had tried CBD lotions and salves from other companies, but at lower MGs. They simply did nothing for me. I am a fan of TruCure’s topical salve and am very grateful for my friend’s gift.
